HOW TO CLEAN URINALS

Tools and Materials Needed

  1. Bowl swab
  2. Trigger sprayer
  3. Clean cloths
  4. Products
    1. Toilet bowl cleaner
    2. Cleaner disinfectant, liquid or foam aerosol
    3. Material Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used
    4. Personal protective equipment as called for in MSDS
    5. Always follow OSHA regulations and your site-specific exposure control plan.
    6. If blood or other potentially infectious material is present, follow your site-specific exposure control plan.

Purpose of Urinal Cleaning

  1. Clean, disinfect and deodorize the urinal
  2. Reduce the growth and spread of bacteria
  3. Outside urinal
    1. Spray the flush handle and all the chrome around the urinal.
    2. Spray the outside of the urinal with a cleaner disinfectant.
      1. Spray the underside of the outside of the urinal and allow disinfectant to remain wet for 10 minutes.
      2. Clean the outside of each urinal.

Procedures for Cleaning a Urinal

  1. Put on personal protective equipment. Always follow OSHA regulations and your site-specific exposure control plan.
  2. Inside urinal
    1. Apply 1 to 2 ounces of bowl cleaner evenly onto the bowl swab.
    2. Swab entire surface inside, under the rim, and where the water outlets are located.
    3. Flush urinal and rinse bowl swab thoroughly.
      1. Set bowl swab aside, placing it into a carrying container.
