Procedure for Cleaning Whirlpools After Every Use
- Put on gloves and recommended personal protection equipment. Always follow OSHA regulations
and your site-specific exposure control plan.
- If manufacturer's instructions are not available for disinfecting, a bucket should be used to fill the
whirlpool. This will tell you how many gallons of water it takes to fill the whirlpool above the
water inlet jets. Using a permanent marker, mark the water line.
- Fill the whirlpool to marked line, above pump pickup inlets.
- Dilute disinfectant in the water according to manufacturer's directions.
- Turn on circulating pumps to circulate disinfectant.
- Turn off pump.
- Allow disinfectant to stand for 10 minutes.
- Drain.
- Refill with water. Turn on the pump for one minute. Shut off the pump and drain.
- Disinfect the rest of the whirlpool using a trigger sprayer filled with a disinfectant cleaner.
Spray solution, then agitate with a white scrub pad all the following areas. Keep the
surface wet for 10 minutes.
- Handrails
- Stairs
- Saddle
- Sidewalls of whirlpool
- Rinse whirlpool with clear water.
- Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
- Now ready to be filled for the next use.
Procedure for Periodic Deep Cleaning of Whirlpool
Rust and hard water stains can be cleaned using an acid based cleaner.
- Put on gloves. Always follow OSHA regulations and your site-specific exposure control plan.
- Drain whirlpool.
- Spray the acid based product on whirlpool surfaces.
- Agitate with white scrub pad.
- Rinse with clear water.
- Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
